the island

they say that no blog is an island. this one is.

happy new year

So, I’m a little late to wish you all a Happy New Year. Here, on the island, we always put things off till it’s convenient.

I have been trying to make this blog a lot more complicated than it previously was. With 4 columns, this was already a wierd looking blog, but I have added more blogs to this blog. I’m considering a name change to ‘The Archipelago,’ but some of my widgets complain. Anyway, I like to keep track of the books and movies I read and watch by posting about them. But they look awkward on this blog, so I’ve given them their own space.

I find it an interesting way to organize stuff and sort of makes this blog function a little like a website. With the new WordPress user interface improvements, it’s so much easier to manage them as multiple blogs. The only real problem is if you read this through a feed. (If you read it at all.) Don’t bother adding the many blogs I have to your feeds just yet. It’s unlikely to have regular content.

It’s still good for a one-in-a-while visit though. :D

I have to add a bit more praise for the WordPress guys. Amazing interface. It has pretty decent inhouse analytics. The only thing it lacks is the ability to really edit the templates (for free). Not that I want it really bad, but others might. It also has this very convenient iPhone application that’s apt for writing posts offline. I keep forgetting it exists. Especialy when I have my phone in my pocket in one of those, I-should-so-blog-about-this moments. And now that blogger allows exporting blogs, you should try WordPress out.

Oh, did you guys know that there’s an eBay site for the UAE that doesn’t work?

I like the Archipelago.. nice idea.

And I don’t get it.. why is ebay.ae advertising Paypal when we can’t sign up for it here? As in, we can, but we can’t get our cards/accounts verified and thus, they just sit there pretending to look pretty but are of no use whatsoever.

I’m still waiting to hear back from the council of widgets on the issue regarding ‘The Archipeago’. I think they’re using delay tactics.

I don’t know how long the ebay.ae has been up, but I first saw it a couple of months ago. Weird.
